This is a book review of The Tenth Chamber by Glenn Cooper.
Upon picking up this book I thought it was the sequel to Glenn Cooper’s ‘Library of the Dead’, which I hugely enjoyed reading. Alas it wasn’t a sequel, not even related, but another good story written by Glenn. A word of warning, this book is purely for adults.
‘The Tenth Chamber’ is about archeology, religion, romance and a lot more. The author with skill separates his book into sub-stories all working towards the larger storyline. He weaves characters together and I couldn’t help but wonder where it was all going.
Primarily based in rural France, it starts with a medieval script being found. This fourteenth century book hidden away and contains startlingly secrets…..if only they could decrypt it!
The main character is archaeologist Luc Simard. Not fair to compare to Indiana Jones, but based upon a map found in the book he makes a breathtaking discovery. A large cave complex, made up of ten chambers with beautiful ancient wall paintings adorning each cave. It is a monumental discovery and like the medieval book, it contains secrets and a story of its own.
He goes about setting up a team to work at the site. A team of experts to help chronicle and unlock the history and mysteries contained within.
Alas there are people working against Luc, forces at play wishing to keep the secrets…..secret. After all these centuries what could be so important to not share with the world?
There are a couple of ‘accidental’ deaths and it seems there are no limits to what people will go to stop Luc.
I did find one or two major holes in the story, though that is a matter of my personal view and I won’t share as I don’t want to spoil this good book for you. If you read Glenn’s ‘Library of the Dead’ and enjoyed that book, most likely you will enjoy this book also.
I couldn’t put this book down and read it within a few days. Another fine addition to Glenn’s literary work and I can’t wait for his next book.
