Continuing my efforts to digitally archive here some of my past, I’ve found an old golf score card from 1995 which has inspired this post. Back when I was seventeen I had a rather diverse birthday. I played golf with my father, had a family meal, then that evening went and drunk too many cocktails at a Spanish bar.
The golfing venue was Goal Farm at Pirbright in Surrey (south England, UK), which is a short nine hole course. The score card shows that at the age of 17 yrs, I show absolutely no promise as a golfer. Though it didn’t deter me from enjoying the round playing golf with my father. I must note my golf skills did improve, but it has been two years since I last played.
I even have the score card (sorry I’ve modified to hide my birth date). I really must revisit Goal Farm again one day for a round or two.
The Spanish Bar was the El Pic in Camberley, where in the mid to late 90s I had a few interesting evenings. Only aged 17 yrs old I proudly announced it was my birthday, which I think they assumed was my 18th (UK legal age for drinking). Anyhow I ordered Flaming Ferrari’s which basically is a mixture of rums, other ingredients in a shot glass set on fire, which you drink before your straw melts. I ordered more than two rounds of these, plus before that had other cocktails. My poor old liver.
Sorry no photos or video from the evening, but below is a video of someone else drinking a Flaming Ferrari, but without good music, in a different type of glass and in another country. Plus they drunk theirs once it goes out!! Okay a bad example now I think of it oh and I drunk mine from shot glasses.
I remember trying to chat up the older barmaid and seeing as they were busy, I kept ordering drinks to chat to her. Which wasn’t a grand idea. Anyhow the bar though small, I quite liked and always had catchy Spanish music on each time I visited.
