Graphic Novel Review: DC / Marvel Crossover Classics IV

3 Small Candles

If only occasionally we could enjoy a comic storyline with both DC and Marvel superheroes…. but you can!

This 2003 graphic novel comes in at 221 pages of comic delight, and shows some of my favourite DC and Marvel characters interacting, and at times working together or fighting each other.

Now at heart I am a DC fan, well at least when it comes to the comic books. This graphic novel is basically some of the old crossover story lines, combined into a graphic novel. So basically these stories were originally published in single magazine form, and later combined into this book.

So who exactly appears? Expect to see Batman, Cyborg, Darkseid, The Fantastic Four, Galactus, Green Lantern, Kingpin, The New Gods, Parallax, Ka’s Al Ghul, The Silver Surfer, Spider-Man, Superman and Thanos.

If you’ve never read either DC or Marvel comics, but watch movies, then you might know Batman, The Fantastic Four, Green Lantern, The Silver Surfer, Spider-Man and obviously Superman.

So to those who know both DC and Marvel, how about Superman working for Galactus? Perhaps Batman working with Spider-Man? Maybe the Silver Surfer and Parallax working together? Sound good to you? I know it does to me and there were great storylines. Though I must admit seeing Darkseid appear small compared to the huge Galactus, just doesn’t seem right and neither did that particular storyline.

The different stories contained within this one book, are fun to read. To me personally they are a novelty, but not as good as a DC or Marvel only comic book.

So this isn’t one story from beginning to end, but a collection. The collection were a fun read and although I won’t go out of my way too often to read any other crossover story lines, I did enjoy the graphic novel. So the final conclusion is, not an outstanding collection of stories, but fun as a novelty read.
