The two week food and drink diet

As the title mentions I am changing what I eat and drink for two weeks, as of today. I mention ‘I’, but my wonderful girlfriend is supporting me, and will be eating the same dinners as me.

So what is the change? Well this change to my health is because of Tim Ferriss’s slow-carb diet blog post about losing 100 pounds. It is a great blog post, and I recommend you give it a read. However I’m not following all the advice, but most of it.

So here is what I am doing for the next two weeks:

  • Not eating pasta, potato or rice.
  • Reducing my bread intake.
  • Not eating fruit, other than tomatoes.
  • No cereal at night.

If that list doesn’t look too bad, then let me tell you about the amount of thought I’ve already given to potatoes, or should I say potato jackets, wedges and chips!

I was eating and drinking four to six different types of fruit per day. Now my fruit juice in the morning is gone and my fruit salad is gone. To make up for the lack of pasta, potato or rice, we are having larger salads. To make up for the lack of fruit, I’m going to eat more celery and carrot sticks.

Now I’ve taken food and drink ‘challenges’ before, to great success and found them fun. However even two before I started this change in eating and drinking, I wasn’t looking forward to it, and after a tough week I really wanted a pizza on Saturday night (tonight). However I am going to make the changes, regardless of other pressures in my life.

Now this change collides with my drinking habits. I’ve cut out coffee completely for a while now, and reduced tea for other reasons. Replacing them with sliced lemon in hot water and cold or hot cordial / squash. So I need to push myself once again with what I drink and now I’m going to be occasionally drinking peppermint tea and water. Yeah that sounds good, not.

I don’t usually eat a dessert, but every so often I was having a bowl of cereal late at night! Bad I know, and I although I’ve not done it for a while, I won’t be for the next two weeks either.

Now I’m a vegetarian, but vegetarians can be unhealthy, regardless of not eating meat. I don’t drink currently, which I don’t mind, but this change (which was my idea), is going to be tough. Anyhow I’m looking forward to the homemade soup that we have in the freezer for lunch today, so it isn’t all bad.

As Barney from ‘How I Met Your Mother’ would say ‘challenge accepted!’.

Update 1st July 2012: I’m now reading Tim’s Four Hour Body book and it appears I need to have an unhealthy day once per week during my low-carb diet, to do with stopping my metabolic rate decreasing. So each Saturday I’m going to be bad!! I’m also going to maintain a steady bean and lentil intake to deal with energy levels. I’m only just beginning to read Tim’s book, and it is amazing, and so is his blog.
